1. Business and Information Systems
The organisation, management and benefits of Information Systems within a business organisation are first considered. This course is built on by considering the business options provided by Information Systems, the impact of Information Systems on organisations and how to plan and manage the impact.
2. Systems Analysis and Design
Describes in detail a comprehensive set of techniques for the analysis and design of an Information System and looks at a range of methodologies for incorporating these techniques into development frameworks.
3. Application Building
Databases introduce the theory and practice of good database design techniques and gives hands-on experience of a range of database systems. The course evolves from considering straightforward personal database systems to investigating large scale database systems and various advanced topics.
Programming takes the student from the basics of programming through to various advanced concepts and techniques while stressing the importance of good software development practice. Emphasis is placed on developing applications for the web including accessing databases from the web.
4. Technology
This introduces the elements of Information Systems hardware and software. Networks are considered both theoretically and practically with emphasis on design and operational issues.
5. The Internet and the World Wide Web
This considers the technology related to the Internet both theoretically and practically.
6. Project Management for Information Systems
To explore the theory and practice of good project planning and management. Emphasis is placed on planning, quality issues and risk analysis
